Position Description:

Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, invites applications for postdoctoral positions in theoretical condensed matter physics in conjunction with the ERC Synergy project HERO on Hidden, Entangled and Resonating Orders.

Subject description

We are seeking candidates for a Nordita Assistant professorship in Theoretical condensed matter physics. Qualified candidates in all areas will be considered. Particular synergies with the ongoing efforts in Dynamic and Correlated Quantum Matter and Machine learning and data informatics are encouraged (tqmatter.org). Qualified candidates are expected to show a record of impactful research and potential to develop collaborative projects at Nordita.

Duties

The assistant professor will be given the opportunity to develop an independent research program. There may be opportunities to gain accreditation that allows the successful candidate to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements.

It is of vital importance to Nordita to continually develop and renew its research areas. We aim to recruit people who can lead such development. Experience from other research environments is a clear asset. The assistant professor is expected to establish and develop research collaborations with research groups at SU and KTH and collaborating institutions in EU and US.

Eligibility

A person is eligible for appointment if they have attained a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise.

Grounds of assessment

Special importance is given to research expertise shown, for example, through publications. Special attention will be given to candidates who attained a Degree of Doctor or have acquired the equivalent expertise no more than seven years before the end of the application period. The applicant's ability to establish and develop collaborations both in research and education is of importance. Significant importance will also be given to skills in supervision and research community citizenship. This position may allow for opportunities to teach courses at hosting universities.

Additional information

The successful applicant will become an integral part of the Nordita faculty as a Nordita assistant professor.

Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1957. It moved to the AlbaNova University Center in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007, where it is jointly hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. Research at Nordita covers a broad range of theoretical physics including astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, gravitation, cosmology and astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, and statistical physics/complex systems. The research activity of the local academic staff is supplemented by Nordita Scientific Programs, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods. There is also ample opportunity for collaboration with faculty and research staff at local universities. Further information about Nordita can be found at www.nordita.org.
