The Department of Asian Studies at Cornell University invites applications for a full-time Senior Lecturer position in Sinhala language beginning July 1, 2021. Initial one-year probationary contract with possibility of multi-year renewals, contingent upon merit, the continued needs of the department, and availability of program funding.

Minimum qualifications: A Master's degree and native speaker-level competency in written and spoken Sinhala (including literary and colloquial language forms) are required, as is prior language teaching experience and the ability to teach all course levels autonomously. Also required are an explicit understanding of the linguistic properties of Sinhala; knowledge of the cultural background necessary to teach the language; familiarity with a variety of language-teaching methodologies (including technology-related pedagogy); flexibility in using diverse teaching methodologies, including video conference/distance learning; excellent English skills; and the ability to prepare pedagogical materials for Sinhala language instruction.
