Position Description:

Postdoctoral Associate Position in Infection/Risk Modeling
Dr. Renata Ivanek's Lab, Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences
College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

The Laboratory of Dr. Renata Ivanek in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at Cornell University is seeking a highly motivated and outstanding postdoctoral researcher to work on a USDA funded project on mathematical modeling of COVID-19 spread among workers in the food industry to identify optimal mitigation strategies to protect workers' safety and assure continuation of food production. Additional USDA funded projects are available in modeling of food safety hazards and sustainability of food safety interventions along the farm-to-table food chain, and modeling of antibiotic resistance in livestock.

What we do: Dr. Ivanek’s research is in modeling and epidemiology of infectious and foodborne diseases. Ongoing projects include modeling of COVID-19 among workers in the food industry; food safety risk and sustainability assessments; modeling antibiotic resistance in livestock; “digital twin” models of microbial hazards in complex, built environments; and modeling of food spoilage and optimization of food systems to reduce food waste.

Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have (i) a PhD degree in epidemiology, food science, applied mathematics, or operations research, (ii) robust research experience in epidemiology, mathematical modeling, and/or risk modeling, (iii) good track record of publications, and (iv) strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary collaborative team.

The following additional qualifications are desired: (i) experience in using R software, (ii) experience in agent-based modeling, and (iii) background or applied experience in health sciences and/or food production/distribution systems. Candidates with DVM, MD, or DrPH degrees and with experience in mathematical modelling or extensive epidemiological experience will also be considered.

Timeline: Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment can start as soon as hiring arrangements could be made and will initially be for one year with a possibility of renewal.

How to apply: Visit https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17228 to submit a brief statement of research interests and career goals, CV, and contact information for three references.
