The C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) at Stony Brook
University
(http://insti.physics.sunysb.edu/itp/www/) seeks applications for a tenure
track Assistant Professor position in theoretical cosmology with a start
date as early as September, 2021.
Research fields currently represented at the YITP include cosmology, particle and astroparticle theory, quantum field theory, string theory, condensed matter, statistical mechanics, and quantum information theory. The YITP has a long tradition of collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Mathematics, and strong connections to the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, near-by Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the Center for Computational Astronomy (CCA) at the Flatiron Institute. Stony Brook faculty play leading roles in a wide range of research projects, including the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT), the Simons Observatory (SO), CMB-S4, CMB-HD, the Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), and many others; more details can be found at the Stony Brook Cosmology website. A PhD in physics, cosmology or a related field is required. The successful candidate should have a documented record of research accomplishment. Institute faculty are expected to engage in independently funded research characterized by creativity and vision, with a strong commitment to the teaching and mentorship missions of the Institute and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
