The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or untenured Associate Professor level. Applications are particularly invited from candidates whose research interests fall in the areas of (1) robotics and autonomous systems and/or (2) aerospace engineering. Examples include -- but are not limited to -- robotics, autonomous vehicles and systems, cyber-physical systems, control theory and optimization, machine learning and artificial intelligence, energy efficient propulsion and aircraft systems, computational fluid dynamics, and other allied autonomy and aerospace disciplines. Applicants for the position must have a demonstrated record of excellence in, and show exceptional promise for, high-quality research, teaching, and professional development. By the time of hiring, candidates are expected to have been awarded a doctoral degree in a quantitative field. Once hired, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to obtain competitive external funding, to establish a vibrant research program, and to contribute through service to the welfare of the department and to the promotion of their discipline.
