Fermilab is Americaâs premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and South Dakota and at locations around the world, including Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.
The Particle Physics Division seeks outstanding applicants for a post-doctoral Research Associate position in cosmic microwave background (CMB) science. This position is aimed at exceptional recent PhD recipients with a proven research record from prior experience in experimental astrophysics and cosmology. Fermilab is leading survey operations for the SPT-3G experiment, which is performing world-leading measurements of the CMB. In addition, Fermilab is actively involved in the design and development of the future CMB-S4 experiment. This position provides the opportunity to participate in the development of new projects targeting related detector development, readout electronics, optical coupling, and detector module R&D capitalizing on the broad range of scientific, computing, engineering, and technical expertise available at the laboratory.
The position is for a period of up to three (3) years, with the potential for extension considered on a yearly basis thereafter.
You Will
⢠Publish scientific papers based on the analysis of SPT-3G data.
⢠Work on the design and development of the CMB-S4 experiment.
⢠Present work at scientific conferences, workshops, and reviews.

We Are Looking For
⢠PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, or related field by the time of the appointment
⢠Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research
⢠Excellent written and verbal skills, including ability to present at large, international, scientific collaborations and conferences
⢠Ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carrier both domestically and internationally may be required
