Lehigh University invites applications for an assistant professor of theatre, with specialties in acting and directing. An additional or sub-specialty such as musical theatre, voice, movement, combat, or other is desirable. The successful candidate will hold an appropriate terminal degree and demonstrate promise in scholarly research and creative work. The candidate will teach in areas of expertise—including acting and directing—as well as general theatre courses. The candidate will direct on-campus, mentor student directors, contribute to the development of curriculum, and participate in university service. Our ideal new colleague would be interested in directing a range of genres and styles, possibly including musicals and/or new plays. Desirable experience and competency include directing in a thrust space and coaching beginning actors.

This tenure-track appointment begins in Fall 2021 and joins a department of five tenure-track faculty and approximately seven adjunct teaching staff. We offer a NAST-accredited B.A. and are housed in a multi-venue performing arts center. Four productions in our 307-seat thrust theater and additional productions in our black box theater comprise the annual season. Our department is energetic and highly collaborative, and we are looking for a hands-on colleague who is dedicated to the principles of an undergraduate liberal arts education.

We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience address diversity, equity, or questions of interest to historically underrepresented or underserved communities.
