Visiting Assistant Professor of Architectural Design Lehigh University

The department of Art, Architecture, and Design (AAD) at Lehigh University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position in architectural design. This position will be a 9-month appointment to begin August 2021.

The department seeks a colleague to teach Design Foundations and Architectural Design studios. They will be an integral part of a design-centered undergraduate architecture curriculum that fosters learning through experimentation, making, and disciplinary inquiry.

The Foundations studio emphasizes developing novel approaches and critical thinking using three-dimensional media, centered around hands-on concepts and methods, and also integrating basic digital tools, suitable for students at the early stages of their education. It serves students from all four of the department’s major programs: art, architecture, design, and art history, as well as non-majors. The position will also be responsible for developing and teaching Architectural Design studios in the area of their expertise, preferably integrating aspects of experiential learning, new materials, and contemporary design methods.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3 studio courses each in both the fall and spring semesters in Design Foundations and Architectural Design. Foundations instruction includes instructional support from Lehigh University’s Design Labs • Participation in meetings, committees, reviews, and presentations throughout the academic year, both within the architecture program and the department

Qualifications and Requirements

• M.Arch or equivalent terminal degree in architecture or other relevant discipline ● Prior teaching experience at the college or university level, including courses at the foundation level and semester-long design studios • Demonstrated proficiency with contemporary tools and presentation techniques
