INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physiology and Neurobiology (PNB) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor-in-Residence, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2021.  

The University of Connecticut has an idyllic campus located just outside of Connecticut’s capital city of Hartford, which makes it an exciting place to live, learn, work, and play, with proximity to Boston and New York City.  The successful candidate will join a vibrant department with a deep commitment to undergraduate education and history of pedagogical innovation. Candidates will be expected to participate in teaching human anatomy and physiology, an associated laboratory, and to develop new educational initiatives that provide PNB undergraduates with a life-transformative education.  Opportunities are also available to pursue projects in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and engage in professional development related to the candidate’s pedagogical interests.  Candidates are not expected to maintain an active research program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in physiology, neurobiology, or a closely related life science discipline; evidence of outstanding teaching in undergraduate life science courses; experience using educational technologies for course organization or student engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in high enrollment courses, flipped courses, and laboratory courses; track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices, technology-assisted teaching, and experiential learning. Prior experience with course and curriculum development; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a co-teaching environment. Commitment to working with a diverse student body.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position that has the possibility of leading to long-term multi-year contracts. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of work at other UConn campuses. The normal teaching load for this position is seven three-credit courses per year, or the equivalent. The position has an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021.
