The Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites applications for a temporary one-year position as a Lecturer in German. This is a one-year, temporary appointment beginning September 1, 2021 and ending May 31, 2022. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Responsibilities include teaching five German language undergraduate-level sections at the introductory level, and associated preparations and office hours. The selected candidate will teach one class in the fall term, one in the January term, and three in the spring term. Subjects are planned for in-person instruction, though this is subject to change.


Candidates must have:

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in German language, teaching German as a foreign language, second language acquisition, or a related field;
  • Native or near-native spoken and written proficiency in German and English;
  • At least two years’ experience in German language instruction at the college or university level;
  • And demonstrated interest and experience in language pedagogy.
