The experimental high energy physics group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate with the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The CMS group (Profs. Kevin Black, Tulika Bose, Sridhara Dasu and Matt Herndon) built, commissioned, operates and is upgrading major parts of CMS: the trigger system, including the L1 calorimeter trigger and the High-Level Trigger (HLT), the muon system, including the cathode strip chambers (CSCs) and the new Gas Electron Muliplier chambers (GEMs), software for simulation and event processing, and a leading Tier-2 facility. We are broadening our contributions in the software and computing area, in particular via integration and application of AI/ML approaches.

The UW CMS group pursues a broad physics program covering Standard Model physics, Higgs physics (both Standard Model and beyond), and direct searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. Group members have leadership roles in physics analyses and have high level management responsibilities within the CMS Physics Coordination area.

The group is looking for an outstanding applicant who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics. The successful applicant is expected to play an important role in the analysis of CMS data and make significant contributions to the group's ongoing operations/upgrade efforts. The review of applications will begin immediately and for full consideration, applications should be submitted by May 16th, 2021. Applications will, however, continue to be accepted until the position is filled.

Applicants should submit their materials at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/18504. A complete application includes the following materials: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a short statement of research interests and skills, and three letters of recommendation which should be sent separately via a link provided through AJO.

For enquiries, please contact Prof. Tulika Bose (tulika@hep.wisc.edu).

Unless confidentiality is requested in writing, information regarding the applicants must be released upon request. Finalists cannot be guaranteed confidentiality. A background check is required prior to employment.
