INTRODUCTION

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor-in-Residence level. This position is based on the Storrs campus. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position that has the possibility of leading to a multi-year contract. The position is suitable for candidates who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching.

The successful candidate will assist with teaching the lecture and laboratory course Introduction to Biochemistry (MCB 2000).  Other responsibilities will include the advising of undergraduate students and developing success and retention strategies for biology students.  Successful candidates will be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests. The successful candidate will also perform service to the department and/or campus as requested.

The Department of Molecular & Cell Biology has a broad and interdisciplinary research program that offers courses at the cutting edge of a wide range of molecular biosciences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in a field related to biochemistry by the start date.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated biochemistry expertise through undergraduate or graduate course work.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse student body.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching large, core curriculum undergraduate level courses as well as small format courses both in person and distance learning formats.
  • Track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices, and experiential learning.
  • Experience working with innovative methods designed to improve student success and retention. For example, problem based and case based or active learning strategies.
  • Prior experience with course and curriculum development.
  • A record of effective teaching and advising students.
  • Experience teaching scientific writing, responsible conduct of research, or laboratory management.
  • Experience in the design and guidance of undergraduate and graduate research projects.
  • Evidence of integrating technology into instruction.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This position is a full-time, nine (9)-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021.  The position may be annually renewable based on performance, funding and needs of the department and college.  Salary is competitive based upon qualifications.
