The Serials & Electronic Resources Acquisitions Librarian oversees the acquisition of continuing resources and the management of print serials at Duke University Libraries (DUL). Working in a changing and complex multi-consortia environment, you will participate in the acquisition, licensing, and renewal of print serials and electronic resources. You will also oversee the receipt and management of physical materials acquired by the department, as well as management of their related records in library systems. Priority given to applicants submitted prior to June 7, 2021.

Responsibilities 
Organizes and oversees the acquisition of continuing resources for DUL, including the acquisition of both electronic resources and print serials. Collaborates with the Head, Continuing Resource Acquisitions (CRA) and the Electronic Resources Management (ERM) Librarian in all aspects of continuing resource acquisitions, including vendor negotiations, licensing, assessment, and renewals/cancellations. Supports CRA staff with continuing resource acquisitions processes, including but not limited to, creating and updating orders, processing invoices, and processing renewals. Serves on the CRA Management Team.  Organizes and oversees workflows for all aspects of print and microform serials management, including ordering, renewing, invoicing, check-in, routing, claiming, holdings management, and binding. Resolves complex problems related to print serials acquisitions, receipts, and binding. Works closely with colleagues in DUL Technical Services and other DUL divisions whose work intersects with that of the Serials Management Team.  Participates in the DUL Licensing Team to review and negotiate license agreements for electronic resources and services, ensuring that they align with DUL licensing principles such as compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and current accessibility standards.  Participates in data gathering and evaluation of pricing, usage, and other metrics to support collection assessment, budget processes and annual reporting requirements.  Participates in the development of workflows and policies for continuing resource acquisitions and all aspects of the print serials life cycle.  Works collaboratively with units across Technical Services and throughout the DUL system on activities and projects that support continuing resource acquisitions and print serials management.  Serves on relevant library and consortia committees as it relates to functional expertise and/or professional development, including participating in the development and implementation of the FOLIO Library Services Platform.  Stays informed of trends in acquisitions and serials management, and recommends changes to existing tools and workflows as appropriate.  Displays continuing growth in professional and subject knowledge and takes an active interest in the profession. Growth and interest should be demonstrated through continuing development of professional knowledge and abilities, membership and participation in professional organizations, and service to the library, University, or community in a professional capacity.  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the conceptual, analytical, and interpersonal skills required to manage and lead a critical library program.

Experience:
Required: • At least two years of demonstrated, successful experience with acquisitions in a research library environment • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, time and project management skills, including the ability to set priorities and effectively manage multiple projects and assignments • Demonstrated understanding of current models, practices, and tools used by academic libraries for the licensing, acquisition, and management of continuing resources • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including evidence of ability to work collegially and collaboratively within and across organizations • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and as a team member • Experience working with an Integrated Library System or a next-generation resource management system • Familiarity with fund management and budget processes • Interest in professional development and engagement and promise of an extended range of professional activity in the future

Preferred: • Prior supervisory experience • Experience with electronic resource license review and negotiation process and best practices • Experience with print serials management and best practices

Working Conditions
• Normal office environment • Occasionally works in an environment in which exposure to materials containing dust and mold is possible • Occasional travel required • Work will be performed onsite

Salary and Benefits
Salary and rank dependent on qualifications and experience; however, the anticipated range is $58,000-$65,000. Comprehensive benefits package includes 20 days vacation, 13 holidays, 12 days sick leave; health, dental, disability and life insurance and support for professional development and training.
