The German Studies Department at Duke University invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable Post-doctoral Fellowship in German Studies beginning July 1, 2021. Applicants should have a research focus in the Age of Goethe and should have demonstrated excellence in research. Applicants must have a PhD in hand by June 30, 2021, and must be within 3 years of having received their PhD. The Fellow will be expected to be in residence, to conduct research in the Duke University Libraries and/or Archives, to participate actively in the intellectual life of the university, to hold a talk on their research, and to teach a 2-1½ load that spans the undergraduate curriculum. As one of their spring courses, the Fellow will develop a class modeling humanities research and guiding undergraduates to do their own research on the topic Art and Activism. In addition to conducting research, the Fellow must be committed to excellence in teaching both German language and thematic classes in English. All Duke courses are currently expected to be taught in person during the 2021-2022 AY.
