Position Description
Director, Center for Human Resource ResearchPosition Overview
The Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR) at The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Center Director. Since 1965, CHRR has been a leader in survey research and big data administration. As a highly technical organization with a robust security program and a staff of 60 professionals, CHRR is a national leader in survey design, survey programming, data collection, and large project management. The Center is well known for its data security infrastructure and its ability to help researchers integrate all phases of their research program into a coherent whole. CHRR seeks a director who can articulate a vision for the Center’s future and develop a strategic plan to expand the Center’s portfolio of work.
CHRR’s flagship project is the National Longitudinal Surveys (NLS), a vital national resource for the study of labor force behavior and related social and economic factors over the life course. The Center also manages the Ohio Longitudinal Data Archive (OLDA), the State of Ohio’s collection of administrative records for state residents. CHRR recently created the American Population Panel (APP), comprised of over 35,000 volunteer respondents nationwide. The APP team works with researchers at The Ohio State University and across the country who need an available sample to carry out their research. Finally, the staff conduct an array of smaller survey and data archiving projects in social science and related research fields.
Director’s Responsibilities and Expectations
The Director is expected to articulate a vision for the Center and develop a strategic plan for expanding CHRR’s portfolio of projects. In addition, the Director will manage CHRR’s relationships with external audiences and with senior administrators on The Ohio State University campus. Additional responsibilities include the following:
- Manage the Center’s budget and work with senior staff to ensure resources are available and project timelines are met
- Meet with external clients and contracting agencies
- Establish new relationships with research organizations
- Lead and provide strategic direction to a team of staff, and work closely with the IT team to promote technical innovation in survey data collection and ensure state-of-the-art data security
- Promote a diverse and inclusive environment and support the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Serve as a subject matter expert in longitudinal research methods and data management
- Collaborate with college and university leadership to further the mission of CHRR
The Director will have a full-time appointment at CHRR and, if desired and based on qualifications, a tenure-track or tenured position in the relevant academic department. The Director will work twelve months a year and earn vacation and sick leave.
