The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate with a 1-year renewable term position in our Applied Economics and Policy area, intended for placement in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. The start date of this position will be in the Spring/Summer of 2022. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.

Responsibilities of the position include (1) evaluate the returns of Research and Development (R&D) on Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth in US agriculture, (2) assess the effects of future anthropogenic climate change on US agricultural TFP growth, and (3) assess the R&D investment needed to counterbalance projected climate change effects in the coming decades, and (4) contribute towards updating a pre-existing database of state-level agricultural R&D investments and TFP estimates in coordination with economists at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Economic Research Service (ERS). The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work closely with Professors Ariel Ortiz-Bobea (Cornell Dyson) and Robert G. Chambers (University of Maryland) under a new grant funded by USDA titled “R&D and agricultural productivity in a changing climate”.

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in economics, agricultural and resource economics or related field, with experience working with R&D and productivity data and/or climate data and R programming. A strong record of success conducting independent research and scholarly activities, including publication in peer-reviewed journals is highly desired. This position requires excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated interest in research focusing on productivity analysis and climate change is strongly preferred.

In the context of her/his responsibilities, the Postdoctoral Associate will interact with members of the OECD Network on Agricultural Productivity and the Environment (https://www.oecd.org/agriculture/topics/network-agricultural-productivity-and-environment/), an international group of government and academic economists working to improve the measurement of agricultural productivity by incorporating environmental factors such as environmental protection and climate.
