The successful candidate is expected to teach our introductory Cell Biology core course and upper level courses that support the Biology and Neuroscience majors. Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s interests and expertise. We seek applicants who have capacity and enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population, who are committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, and who will develop an active research program that engages undergraduate collaborators. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Biology Department has state of the art facilities and equipment and each faculty has their own research lab. Start-up funds, additional forms of institutional support, and a pre-tenure sabbatical leave policy are available. Support for pedagogy and scholarship is offered by Macalester’s Jan Serie Center for Scholarship and Teaching. The most qualified candidates will have teaching and postdoctoral research experience. Macalester College is committed to student and faculty diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong candidates will have a record of experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse students.

To apply, electronically submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of 1) teaching philosophy, 2) research plans, and 3) inclusive practices that you will use to engage diverse students in the classroom and research laboratory. The inclusive practices statement should not exceed two pages and should discuss past experiences and/or potential future contributions to inclusive excellence in the areas of research, teaching, service, and/or outreach. In the inclusive practices statement, applicants should reflect upon their experience and vision regarding the teaching and mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds.
