DevLab@Duke connects social scientists at Duke University who work in international development with the community of development practitioners. The Lab works directly with donors such as USAID and the World Bank on research opportunities, the promotion of evaluable programming, and on impact evaluations themselves. The Lab also works with implementers, such as RTI, DAI, Social Impact, and others at the project proposal stage as well as the implementation and monitoring/evaluation stages. We are cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary, and interested in pushing the boundaries between the academic and policy worlds in international development with a permanent eye toward improving the lives of the poor.

DevLab@Duke seeks a Program Manager to work with our team focused on international development research and evaluation. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: •Working with DevLab research teams across projects to manage and coordinate project work, including allocation and coordination of staffing, data collection, adherence to timelines, ensuring completion of high quality deliverables, and coordinating with partners (including funders as well as primes and subcontractors); •Supporting all steps in the business development/proposal process, particularly proposal management, budget development and coordination with the grants manager, detailed adherence to RFP requirements, coordinating across proposal contributors both within Duke and among partners, representing DevLab in meetings with partners, etc.; •Research and technical support for evaluation reports and academic publications, including data analysis bearing on impact evaluations and other research; •Management and coordination of the DevLab MELD internship program, including screening and placing undergraduate and MA student interns on DevLab projects, serving as the point of contact for interns, as well as timekeeping and payroll tasks; •Contributing to and maintaining a database of DevLab activities, including proposals, current projects, publications, students and other affiliates, etc.; and •Serving as the point of contact for DevLab and handling communication with faculty, students, and other stakeholders both within and outside the University.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position has: •MA in a social science discipline (BA with development industry and/or relevant academic experience considered); •Project coordination and/or management experience, ideally for social science research or international development projects; •Training and experience with research methods and data analysis; •Experience with business development and/or proposal development; familiarity with the project cycle (e.g., capture planning, solicitations, proposals, budgets, and research project implementation); •Strong written and verbal communication skills; •Attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; •Familiarity with or interest in research and evaluation in developing countries and/or international development organizations; •Experience with IRB procedures and protocols (ideal but not required); •Experience developing and programming survey instruments (ideal but not required); and •Strong interpersonal skills and eagerness to work in a lab-like setting. This is a one-year renewable position.
