Ad for Li Fang's Experimental Group in Attosecond AMO Science.

A position as Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Ultrafast Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics (AMO) and Attosecond Science is available at University of Central Florida in the group of Dr. Li Fang. The candidate selected will participate in studies using table-top attosecond lasers/free electron lasers and e/ion spectroscopy. Candidates with a background in experimental physics with an emphasis on strong field or attosecond physics and experience in high-power ultrafast lasers, high harmonic generation, and electron/ion spectroscopy will have first consideration.

The University of Central Florida is rapidly becoming a major center for the theoretical and experimental study of ultrafast electron dynamics in atoms, molecules and solids, and a point of reference on the East coast of the United States for the international attosecond community. UCF will host ATTO VIII, the next edition of the most prominent international conference of attosecond science [https://sciences.ucf.edu/physics/atto]. Successful applicants will have a unique opportunity to showcase their achievements there. Orlando has also been selected to host the annual conference of the Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics (DAMOP) of the American Physical Society in 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities: The researcher will be primarily responsible for helping with setting up an attosecond beamline and/or spectrometer system and for carrying out experiments using the XUV/x-ray photon sources in on-campus laboratories. The research project concerns the interaction of atomic and molecular systems with ultrashort laser pulses in the short-wavelength range. Additional duties include assisting in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate research work in laboratories, and assisting experiments carried out at off-campus facilities. The researcher is expected to publish papers in the refereed literature, and to attend professional meetings to present results of this research.

Minimum qualifications: a PhD in physics or related field.

Candidates with a background in high-power ultrafast lasers, high harmonic generation, electron/ion spectroscopy, and strong field physics will have first consideration.

A successful candidate may start in the position as early as September 2021.
