The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the area of Materials Engineering. Please see Qualifications & Contact Information below.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria offers Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degree programs. The Department is known for its strong, vibrant and well-funded research programs at the forefront of technology. We have research excellence in Sustainable Energy Systems, Advanced Materials, Advanced Vehicles, Biomedical Systems, Aerospace, Mechatronics, and Robotics. We have 27 faculty members, including two Canada Research Chairs, over 550 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate students. Industrial collaboration enriches our teaching and research activities, along with encouragement of our undergraduates to participate in various team-based experiential learning activities. Qualifications & Contact Information The successful candidate will be an emerging researcher in the field of Materials Engineering who demonstrates research creativity; will have a critical understanding of Materials Engineering research and design; and will propose an original, innovative research program of high quality with the potential to achieve international recognition. Candidates with a background in novel material research and creation, in one or more areas of: polymers, composites, ceramics, bulk crystals, and metallic materials are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be familiar with material design, processing, characterization, and advanced manufacturing (digitalization of manufacturing and Industry-4.0). Candidates with research interest in the environmental and sustainability implications of material choices in design and manufacturing are encouraged. Candidates for the position must hold a PhD Degree in Mechanical, Materials, or similar Engineering. They must have strong commitment to research excellence, undergraduate teaching in a broad range of courses, mentoring and supervision of students, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and collaboration. Candidates who identify as female or as members of other under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be registered as a Professional Engineer, or be eligible for and committed to registration. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and actively participate in the academic operations of the Department. Previous teaching experience is an asset.
