Position Description

The Cosmology group at the Department of Physics and Earth Science, University of Ferrara (UNIFE), Italy, invites expressions of interest for a fixed-term staff position* from outstanding candidates with a strong research record in cosmic microwave background (CMB) and large scale structure (LSS) data analysis and interpretation. The research topics include: pipeline development for next generation CMB experiments, cross-correlation of CMB data with large-scale-structure surveys, likelihood analysis, cosmological model building and investigation of fundamental physics with upcoming cosmological datasets.

*** Please note: the position advertised is really for a fixed-term research staff member, not for a postdoc (despite being indexed as such from AJO). Applicants with previous experience at postdoctoral level are exceedingly preferred. See below for further information ***

The Cosmology group at UNIFE is active on several complementary aspects of the research in cosmology, covering a wide range of activities, from cosmo-particle projects with a mostly-theoretical flavour to the development and validation of data analysis pipelines. The group is deeply involved in several scientific collaborations such as LiteBIRD, Euclid, LSPE, Simons Observatory, CMB-S4. More information can be found at https://www.fe.infn.it/cosmologia/?lang=en.

The group has access to High Performance Computing facilities and has close connections with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN, which maintains a division inside the Department), the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) and the HPC consortium CINECA.

The successful candidate is expected to join the activities and to complement the current expertise of the group, as well as to take an active part in the Physics teaching programme (60-hour/year teaching duties), and supervise students.

To ensure they receive full consideration, expressions of interest should be sent (in English and via Academic Jobs Online only) by October 10th, 2021. They should include:

1. Curriculum Vitae.

2. A statement of research interests (3 pages max excluding references).

3. List of at most 12 publications of greatest interest for the selection.

4. Names and email addresses of at least three referees who might be contacted for a letter of reference.

The formal selection procedure will be held during fall 2021. The potential starting date can be as early as January 2022 and preferably no later than Summer 2022.

Women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

*In the Italian system, a fixed-term staff position corresponds to a “ricercatore TDa” ("RTDa"). The position is for 3 years, renewable for a further 2-year term. Salary is paid according to the Italian law (currently ~35000€/year gross). Tax exemption may be granted to candidates who fulfil certain requirements.
