The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level commencing autumn 2022. We seek a scholar who specializes in the ways social injustices impact human health, which may include disease exposure, illness experience, and quality of/access to care. Possible research foci include, but are not limited to, health disparities across the life course; social epigenetics; the intersection of environmental health, environmental racism, and environmental justice; syndemics/ecosyndemics; critical food studies/food justice; indigenous and vernacular healing practices; radical care; disability studies; legacies of racialized health; medical racism. Geographic region is open. The successful candidate will complement current faculty strengths in medical anthropology and human biology and contribute to research and scholarship through high quality publications and the mentoring of graduate students. In the area of teaching, we seek a colleague prepared to play an active role in developing our rapidly growing undergraduate program in medical anthropology by expanding course offerings, teaching introductory courses, and mentoring undergraduate researchers. The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty and college and have opportunities to build connections with strong centers and institutes across the university, including the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, the Institute for Population Research, the Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (InFACT), and OSU’s Title VI centers.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in anthropology or a related discipline by the start of employment, August 15, 2022, and demonstrate research productivity and commitment to teaching. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
