The Department of Biology at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in ecology. This is a broad search: we seek a scientist who does pioneering work on ecological systems at any scale, from the molecular to the global, exploring such dimensions as dynamics, diversity, processes, and change, using any relevant approaches. We are interested in candidates situated at the core of ecology today, and those whose work interfaces with other disciplines, such as in the health, life, physical, and social sciences. The successful candidate will be a member of the Ecology and Evolution group within the Biology Department, whose focus is the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of life—on land and at sea, in the wild, and in the heart of human activity—to deepen fundamental understanding and to support societal decision-making. The successful candidate will be immersed, furthermore, in Stanford’s uniquely collaborative culture. Exciting opportunities for engagement across campus include an emerging new Stanford school focused on sustainability and climate, numerous interdisciplinary institutes and centers, and research stations at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve and Hopkins Marine Station.

Applicants should submit: (1) a statement (not to exceed 3 pages) that describes the applicant’s (a) prior and current research and their vision and plans for future research, and (b) teaching and mentorship philosophy, approach, and experience; (2) a statement (not to exceed 1 page) that describes the applicant’s commitment to and experience in promoting diversity, equity, and justice; (3) a cover letter; (4) a curriculum vitae including publication list; and (5) three letters of recommendation.

Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Stanford welcomes applications from all who would bring additional dimensions to the University’s research, teaching, and clinical missions.
