Description:

*** this fellowship has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

Postdoctoral applications are currently being accepted by the Condensed Matter Theory Center (CMTC) at the University of Maryland, Department of Physics. To apply, upload your CV, research statement, publication list, and have at least 3 letters of reference submitted on your behalf. We anticipate hiring 2-5 new CMTC postdocs to start in August/September 2022.

We are interested in all aspects of quantum condensed matter theory, but there is particular current interest in the following topics (although applications showing other interests will still be considered): solid state quantum computation using semiconductors and/or superconductors, spin qubits and spin decoherence, Dirac and Weyl systems, topological quantum matter, topological quantum computation, strongly correlated phenomena, semiconductor quantum dots in GaAs and Si, exotic superconductivity, machine learning of quantum matter, emergent Majorana fermions in solid state materials and the physics of non-Abelian anyons, strongly correlated phenomena, low dimensional systems, graphene and twisted moire materials, quantum Hall effects, quantum many-body aspects of cold atoms and molecules, many-body localization, physics of fractons, topological quantum field theories, topological superconductivity including higher order topologies, tensor networks and quantum entanglement, symmetry-protected topological phases, physics of two dimensional systems including quantum Hall effects, non-equilibrium dynamics, transport in strongly correlated systems, and information scrambling.

CMTC is a theory center of 7 professorial faculty members, 10-20 postdoctoral fellows, 10-20 doctoral graduate students, and occasional visitors. CMTC is engaged in all aspects of quantum condensed matter theory. CMTC is closely connected to JQI at Maryland with the CMTC Faculty members involved in JQI activities. The applicants should feel free to mention in the application the names of specific CMTC faculty members they may be interested in working with, but this is not required. To get some idea about the breadth of CMTC research interests, please visit http://www.physics.umd.edu/cmtc/.

Applications should be received by January 31, 2022 for full consideration.

To be considered for the CMTC Postdoctoral Fellowship (even the ones which will be joint with JQI), you must apply for a CMTC Fellowship which is considered separately from the JQI Fellowship.
