INTRODUCTION

The UTC Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering in the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut seeks applicants for an Assistant/Associate/Full Research Professor and Associate Director of Research Programs.  

Under the general direction of the Director of the UTC Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (UTC-IASE), the Associate Director of Research Programs provides research expertise, program management, and coordination for the research programs of the UTC-IASE. Specifically, this position is responsible for research project coordination and reporting, creation of new research opportunities, industry partnerships, and research clusters coordination.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing research programs, overseeing the smooth operation and day-to-day delivery of these programs, and will act independently to enhance and diversify the research program of the UTC-IASE. The primary focus of this job is on the design, organization, implementation, and management of the research and outreach programs of the UTC-IASE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research Operations, including leading, organizing, and managing research activities of the Institute; leading special research projects/operations which may be ongoing or new and which require innovation, leadership, and coordination; serving as a resource to faculty and staff on matters relating to strategic research initiatives and partnerships with academia and industry.

Research Opportunities Creation, including providing program leadership in research opportunities and organizing teams to respond to industry and federal agency research calls; team building and mentoring of young faculty; leading of faculty research clusters.

Research Outreach, including partnerships with industry; and serving as a resource to potential and current program participants, corporations, state agencies, and other organizations and individuals on matters related to the Institute’s research program and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ph.D. degree in related field and at least 2 years of relevant experience;
  2. Experience with large university research projects.
  3. Thorough knowledge of, and demonstrated competence in, developing industry engagement and partnerships.
  4. Experience with academic programs/projects creation or generation
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administrators as well as external agencies/groups, and the public.
  6. Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in industry-funded academic programs
  2. Experience or involvement with systems engineering
  3. Experience in industry engagement and outreach activities.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2021. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.  Rank will be determined based on the candidate's credentials.
