Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Department of Integrated Systems Engineering (ISE)

College Overview:  The College of Engineering offers 14 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in 12 departments or centers, as well as, three undergraduate and four graduate degrees in the Knowlton School of Architecture, to approximately 10,000 students. The college has recently expanded its degree offerings with a BS in Engineering Technology available on the regional campuses of the university. The college is one of the largest in the field with 405 faculty. The college has 14 National Academy of Engineering members and numerous members of societies and award recipients. In fiscal year 2020, the college had nearly $138.5 million in externally sponsored research expenditures. Industry R&D expenditures for the College of Engineering in fiscal year 2020 totaled nearly $44 million.

Department Overview: Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University takes an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the modeling and analysis of industrial, business, and governmental systems. The core research areas are Operations Research, Human Systems Integration, and Manufacturing Process Engineering. The department is ranked 14th among all industrial engineering departments nationally (US News and World Report 2020). We have distinguished faculty, including a National Academy of Engineering member, and fellows of professional societies including INFORMS, IISE, IEEE, ASQ, and HFES.

The operations research group has methodological expertise in a variety of areas, including mathematical optimization, stochastic processes, simulation, statistics, economic analysis, and machine learning.  Applications include cybersecurity, energy systems, production and scheduling, sustainability, transportation systems, and water resource management. Our contributions to operations research are concerned with understanding real world systems, their operations and long-term planning, and methodological and algorithmic advances to develop optimal decision-making processes. Our work is grounded in real applications and serves the needs of industry and society. We translate our goals into educational experiences that engage students in state-of-the-art experimental and computational techniques, delivering the preparation and skills to be leaders in the industry and academia.

Position Overview: Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications for a regular tenure-track faculty appointment in the area of operations research. While a more senior position is possible, the anticipated rank is assistant professor.

The successful applicant will be expected to deepen and complement existing ISE departmental strengths, to develop and maintain an active research program, to develop and deliver compelling undergraduate and graduate courses, to support and enhance the reputation of the department, and be an active participant in the industrial engineering community. Research leadership is expected, including the ability to attract federal funding and industrial partnerships to sustain a vibrant research program.

Candidates with technical skills in simulation and stochastics are of particular interest, but all technical specializations will be considered. Application areas of interest include but are not limited to data analytics, energy systems, health care, the sharing economy, supply-chain management, production systems, and the study of issues pertaining to race, inclusion, and social equity in these application areas. 

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in operations research, or a closely related field.
