he Microelectronic Embedded Systems Laboratory (the Lab) in the Department of Computer & Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher (postdoc) to participate in research broadly in the area of cyber-physical systems and internet of things, with a focus on smart buildings and energy-efficient, intelligent systems. The research in the lab has been moving towards methods, tools and systems related to organization and analysis of sensor data, often in collaboration with researchers and faculty in machine learning and data mining in the Halicioglu Data Science Institute and the Computer Science and Engineering department. The candidate is expected to engage in research activities that build upon existing efforts in the Lab, ranging from smart building infrastructure, context and metadata inference, spatial-temporal imputation and reasoning, to reinforcement learning. Prior experience with sensory systems and data is required, and preference will be given to candidates with strong programming and analytical skills. The postdoc will work in a multidisciplinary environment and will have collaboration opportunities with researchers drawn from Computer Science and Data Science departments. The lab also provides multiple opportunities for mentorship to ensure growth and success of the postdoctoral scholarship career. Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English are desired. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical (Computer) Engineering, or Data Science by the appointment start date. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in systems (such as embedded and mobile systems) and data science (knowledge discovery and learning with time-series and text data). The successful candidate will work directly with the PI and also engage in supervising current graduate and undergraduate students in the MESL Lab.
