The Department of Music at Brandeis University seeks a dynamic scholar-teacher to augment our current program strengths. The position is on the tenure track at the rank of Assistant Professor and the area of specialization is open; however, we particularly welcome applicants with research and teaching interests that reach beyond the traditional Western canon. Ethnomusicologists, specialists in folk and popular musics, and music historians with global and/or interdisciplinary perspectives, including those specializing in African American Music, Music of the Black Diaspora, Music of Latin America, or Indigenous Musics of the Americas are especially encouraged to apply. Application will consist of your letter of intent and curriculum vitae submitted to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19574. Your letter of intent and your curriculum vitae should evidence your commitment and contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, including information about your understanding of these issues. Separate teaching and diversity statements, and writing samples will be requested at a later stage: please do not send additional materials at this time. First consideration will be given to applications received by October 15, 2021. Please contact Professor Karen Desmond (kdesmond@brandeis.edu), Chair of the Search Committee, for informal inquiries.

Brandeis University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer that is committed to creating equitable access and opportunities for applicants to all employment positions. Because diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of Brandeis’ history and mission, we value and are seeking candidates that represent a variety of social identities, including those that have been underrepresented in higher education, who possess skills that spark innovation, and who, through their scholarly pursuits, teaching, and/or service experiences, bring expertise in building, engaging, and sustaining a pluralistic, just, and inclusive campus community.
