Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting in August 2022. Housed within the Department of Math, Computer Science, and Physics, the physics program offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in physics, as well as a minor in physics. Successful candidates must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate physics courses and also contributing to the College’s general education program. Evidence of, or potential for, highly effective classroom teaching is required. Candidates should also display a strong interest and capacity for collaborative student research, including an agenda that supports quantitative undergraduate investigation. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field; ABD will be considered.

Of particular interest are candidates whose research plans are experimental and/or applied in nature. Start-up funds for the establishment of an on-campus research program are available. The Physics Group especially seeks to provide students with a highly collaborative and experiential learning environment. We are looking for a colleague to share this vision and to bring new ideas, energy, and expertise. Additional information about the position, the Physics Group, and the Department of Math, Computer Science, and Physics can be found on the program’s associated webpage. Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. The college seeks an individual who demonstrates a commitment to teaching, mentoring and inspiring undergraduates drawn from a diverse student body.

To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of mentored research with evidence and/or examples of potential projects, copies of unofficial graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation (at least one must emphasize teaching experience) via the Academic Jobs Online system at:

https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/20108

Applicants are asked to address their potential contributions in support of a diverse community in their cover letters. All completed applications received by December 15, 2021 will be given full consideration, and applications received afterwards will be considered on a rolling basis.
