As the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States, founded and sponsored by the bishops of the country with the approval of the Holy See, The Catholic University of America is committed to being a comprehensive Catholic and American institution of higher learning, faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ as handed on by the Church. Dedicated to advancing the dialogue between faith and reason, The Catholic University of America seeks to discover and impart the truth through excellence in teaching and research, all in service to the Church, the nation and the world.

Duties include teaching one graduate course a year and 3-4 undergraduate courses, active research, dissertation and thesis supervision, student advising, and the usual committee work. Candidates should have Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and possess competence in appropriate ancient and modern languages.

Applicants should include:

(ii) a CV;
(iii) a research dossier containing an outline of current and future research interests;
(iv) for those applying at the rank of Assistant Professor, a writing sample in the candidate’s area of specialization, OR copies of two representative scholarly publications, for those applying for a senior rank position
(v) for those applying at the rank of Assistant Professor, three confidential letters of recommendation, submitted separately by recommenders to phil-searchcommittee@cua.edu OR for those applying for a senior rank position, the names of and contact information for three referees, who will not be contacted unless the applicant advances in the search process;
(vi) for those applying at the rank of Assistant Professor only, transcripts of all graduate work;
(vii) a one- to two-page personal statement indicating how the candidate, through his or her research, teaching, and service, would make a distinctive contribution to the University’s mission and to the vision of Catholic education outlined in the Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities, Ex Corde Ecclesiae

To be ensured full consideration, applications should be submitted by December 17, but the search will continue until the position is filled.
