The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at Boston University invites applications from promising early-career scholars from diverse backgrounds to join its Society of Fellows as Postdoctoral Scholars. A vibrant, interdisciplinary community committed to innovative research and inclusive excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, the Society provides faculty mentoring to Postdoctoral Scholars, and opportunities for teaching, professional development, and interdisciplinary networking.

We seek outstanding scholars who are committed to supporting and fostering diversity in the academic community through their unique perspectives, research goals, and teaching experiences. The program is open to all fields of inquiry represented in CAS, but we are particularly interested in outstanding scholars whose research spans traditional disciplinary divisions.

The Postdoctoral Scholars program provides two years of support, with the option to apply for renewal for a third year. Postdoctoral Scholars receive an annual (12-month) stipend of $65,000, plus benefits. Scholars also receive an annual allowance of $3,000 for research expenses. Relocation costs and a computer allowance will also be provided. The Postdoctoral Scholars program start date is September 1, 2022.

Eligibility: Candidates must be early-career scholars who have completed their doctoral degree requirements between January 1, 2019 and September 1, 2022. Candidates should propose to conduct research in a field currently represented in CAS (broadly encompassing the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematical & computational sciences). A list of all departments and programs can be found here. Preference will be given to those candidates who have not yet held a postdoctoral position and who do not hold a tenure-track assistant professor faculty position. Additionally, candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.

To apply: Applicants will be required to submit a Cover letter; Curriculum vitae; Statement of Research and Scholarly Goals; Dissertation Abstract; Writing Sample; Diversity & Inclusion Statement (statement should describe applicant’s demonstrated commitment and contributions to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through scholarship, teaching, service, and/or outreach activities); Teaching Statement/Philosophy; and the contact information for at least 3 reference letter writers (it is required that one letter come from the applicant’s doctoral advisor).
