The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri, seeks an outstanding and visionary leader for the position of the Kummer Endowed Department Chair of Computer Science. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and must have the following preferred qualifications and experience.

Experience with collaborative and multi-disciplinary research and education programs 6. Familiarity with institutional dynamics to manage growing academic and research programs 7. Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage program constituencies 8. Experience with university advancement initiatives and corporate development affairs 9. Understanding of national and global trends in computer science and related fields

In addition to the preferred qualifications and experience, candidates must be Fellows or Members of IEEE and/or ACM. Candidates must also demonstrate a willingness to expand and promote Missouri S&T toward R1 Carnegie University Classification status. As a Kummer Endowed Department Chair, the selected candidate will fulfill the required role of Kummer Endowed Chairs as outlined in https://kummerinstitute.mst.edu. The Kummer Institute was recently established through a $300 million transformative gift that will cultivate leadership and technological innovation, nurture an entrepreneurial mindset, foster expansion of academic-industry partnerships to address the emerging needs of industry, and create economic growth for the region, state, and nation.

The CS department currently has 12 Tenured/Tenure Track (T/TT) faculty (with additional hires in the pipeline), 6 Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Teaching faculty, 4 Adjunct Faculty members, and 3 Joint-Faculty appointments. The department has about 700 undergraduate and graduate students, with an average of $1.1 million per year in research expenditures over the last three years. The current and future research thrust areas include 1) Artificial intelligence and data science; 2) Security, trust, and ethics; 3) Distributed and high-performance computing; 4) Interactive computing, 5) Theory, algorithms, and quantum computing; 5) Smart living (transportation, energy, infrastructure); 6) Networking and systems; 7) Health informatics and computational neuroscience; and 8) Digital media and entertainment. CS also collaborates with several research centers on campus including Intelligent Systems Center, Center for Intelligent Infrastructure, Center for High Performance Computing, Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation, and Center for Biomedical Research (https://research.mst.edu/research-centers/).
