The Economics Department at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina, seeks applicants to direct a new initiative that will engage undergraduate and master’s students in a department-wide organized research lab, the Duke Economic Analytics Lab. The ideal candidate will collaborate with faculty to develop a sustainable lab that will train, mentor, and support students so they develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to successfully participate in and contribute to faculty-led research projects. The department-wide lab builds on an existing foundation of labs organized by individual faculty. The lab director will take the lead in recruiting, training, supervising, and matching students with research projects. The lab director will also interact directly with faculty to identify candidate projects for the lab and provide oversight to help assure student trainees benefit from the experience while also providing the support necessary for the trainees to contribute to the research project goals. The successful candidate will be a very effective collaborator who can work with faculty and students across multiple fields within economics, has strong empirical skills, is an excellent communicator, and is passionate about mentoring students, including those who are under-represented in economics. The ideal candidate will have an active empirically-oriented research program in economics and be willing to teach in the core of the undergraduate or master’s programs.

Duke Economics undergraduate and master’s programs are ranked among the best in the country and both attract outstanding students. A key goal of the research lab is to leverage this strength in combination with our faculty’s first-class broad-based research program to further strengthen all of these programs. The lab is designed so that students benefit from unparalleled real-world research experiential learning that enriches classroom-based instruction and faculty benefit from the top drawer research support provided by the lab.

This is a regular rank, non-tenure track position at the assistant, associate or full professor level. The target start date is July 1, 2022, but there is flexibility. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
