Description: The Department of Statistics seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor with interest in research on health disparities. For research, the ideal candidate will have expertise that allows them to identify and address the sharp differences in health care access and outcomes that exist, for example--across groups based on race, education, and employment/poverty. As examples, this may entail expertise in working with large, complex data structures (e.g., images, text) found in electronic health records, the use of observational data to assess causality, meta-analysis, or algorithmic approaches suited to big data. The ideal candidate will be committed to developing and delivering courses at the undergraduate and graduate level related to their research areas as well as to teaching core courses in the department.

Qualifications: A PhD in Statistics or a related field by the start of employment is required. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.

About the Department: The department values the full spectrum of research, including theoretical and methodological development, computational methods, and applications. A particular strength of the department has been its success in collaborative research with many units across the university. In addition to a variety of degrees in Statistics, the department has strong roles in the interdisciplinary PhD program in Biostatistics, the undergraduate major in Data Analytics, and in the Translational Data Analytics Institute.
