Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Active Matter and Theoretical Biophysics The post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years. The PDRA will be part of a team, from the Universities of Oxford, Dundee and University College London, aiming to advance our understanding of gastrulation, an early stage of morphogenesis, using the chick embryo as a model system. This will be a highly collaborative project, which will involve a combination of in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, and cell-scale and tissue-scale modelling. A key aim of the research is to learn how to most effectively formulate model descriptions of a complex biological process, and to advance our understanding of how the physics of active matter is relevant in biological contexts. The Oxford PDRA will be primarily responsible for developing the continuum modelling and for theoretical input to the research team. Applicants should hold a PhD, or be near completion of a PhD in theoretical physics or a related field. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a capacity for independent research work and an ability to collaborate across disciplines. The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach. Please direct enquiries about the role to Professor Julia Yeomans FRS. Julia.Yeomans@physics.ox.ac.uk Only applications received before midday 8 February 2022 can be considered. You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application. Candidates should ensure that referees submit all references to rpcreferences@physics.ox.ac.uk by the closing date.
