Position Description: |
The School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites outstanding candidates to apply for a Tenure Track Assistant Professorship (W1 - tenure W2) for "Experimental Physics" (legal basis: W 1 LBesG NRW; § 36 HG NRW) Expectations: We are seeking to appoint an outstanding researcher, preferentially in an early stage after obtaining the PhD, who is well established in the physics of condensed matter, in particular in the field of magnetic spectroscopy (inelastic neutron scattering is preferred). Additional experience in the field of materials preparation for synthesizing novel materials, particularly in the growth of single crystals is an advantage. The future holder of the position is expected to topically complement the existing experimental research activities in condensed matter physics at the University of Wuppertal and to develop them further. Future research should focus on the area of correlated electron systems and quantum magnetism, including the synthesis and analysis of pertinent materials. A proactive collaboration with other research groups of experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics at the University of Wuppertal with respect to joint research projects and third-party funding acquisition is expected. This includes the participation in future joint projects which succeed the current Research Unit “Correlations in Integrable Quantum Many-Body Systems”. The use of existing research equipment for structure investigations, i.a., in-house x-ray sources as well as equipment for synchrotron radiation is desired. Furthermore, a collaboration with the Wuppertal Center for Smart Materials & Systems CM@S is possible. The successful candidate is expected to teach the basic courses in Experimental Physics in German language as well as to develop and realize Physics Bachelor/Master courses in condensed matter physics. The collaboration in academic self-administration is expected.Requirements:
Tenure track Procedure: Starting as junior professors, they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for three more years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation. After a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the candidates are appointed associate professors (level W2, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement and a written confirmation verifying the negotiated financial and personal resources of the professorship are an integral part of the acceptance agreement between university and candidates. Please submit your application,
including a cover letter, CV, copies of certificates, a list of publications and a list of
previous teaching experiences, addressed to Prof. Dr. Stefan Kirsch solely through the online portal
of the University of Wuppertal: The deadline for applications is 20 April, 2022. The position
should be filled as soon as possible. Inquiries can be made to Prof. Dr. Stefan Kirsch (sfkirsch@uni-wuppertal.de). |
