Position: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

Location: Ithaca, NY 14853. The academic home for this position is the Department of Communication in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), housed on the Ithaca campus of Cornell University.

Position Description and Responsibilities: The Department of Communication at Cornell University invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the area of oral communication starting mid-August 2022. This is a 9-month, full-time appointment for three years with possibility of renewal. We seek a colleague to join our dynamic program and make strong teaching contributions to our core curriculum requirements of excellence in public speaking and oral expression. The primary responsibility will be overseeing and teaching the core Oral Communication course and supervising graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. Responsibilities of the position include teaching up to six courses per year, including the oral communication class each semester. The successful applicant will also contribute to our communication upper-level and professional development courses, Additional responsibilities include supervising the department’s internship program and advising 20–25 undergraduate Communication majors. Advising entails keeping abreast of university, college, and departmental graduation requirements and meeting with students no less than once per semester to plan enrollment strategies and to monitor progress. Summer and winter session teaching and distance learning opportunities are also available.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have earned a master’s degree (PhD preferred) in communication or a closely aligned field with evidence of ability to teach oral communication at the university level, oversee teaching assistants and internships, and develop and coordinate activities with other instructors.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
