We are seeking to fill several positions of Scientific Developer, Modeling & Algorithms in our Transformation Team in Calgary, Alberta. The Scientific Developer will report to Principal Transformation Lead, Science and Technology. An ideal candidate is an experienced user of data and developer of models that power real-world solutions. The Scientific Developer will be assisting project teams across the enterprise to create solutions in fields related to data modeling, artificial intelligence, human-related data analysis, such as quantitative analysis of networks and social media, logistics optimization, engineering, physics and mathematics. This role involves skillsets broader than just data science and AI modeling. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who can learn quickly and tackle a wide variety of problems as a part of a dynamic team.

Responsibilities: - Provide expertise and direction in translating business problems into mathematical statements and implement the apt algorithms to solve them - Perform algorithm development in a dynamic, agile environment - Develop predictive models (statistical, physics-based/AI) to explain behaviors of complex systems or perform optimization of solutions - Support project teams by developing hypotheses, designing experiments, implementing tests and evaluating performance of solutions - Collaborate on algorithm development closely with engineering/business experts and data teams from business units across the enterprise - Ensure systems and software code adherence to government or commercial directives, standards, guidelines, and criteria concerning software safety and systems safety. - Keep up with latest industry best practices and evaluate the current state-of-the-art from the scientific and technological literature

Qualifications: - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, such as experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting research findings in conferences etc. - Interest and willingness to formulate and solve the hard-to-quantify problems - Ability to communicate the basis of the proposed solution - Eager to handle abstract problems as well as the more quantifiable problems - Ability to learn new modeling/ business/ software techniques quickly for a variety of topics relevant to the enterprise - Knowledge of physics and engineering principles and understanding of business relevance and viability of technical ideas - Possess a fundamental awareness of enterprise, technology, developer, and design trends - Ability to locate and read relevant literature on different technical subjects - Ability to develop creative solutions for complex problems and deal successfully with ambiguity

Education and Experience - Minimum 4 to 5 years with BSc in quantitative science (mathematics, physics, engineering etc.), or 2 to 3 years with post-MSc experience or, alternatively, a PhD, strongly preferred

Technical Knowledge - Good knowledge of at least one of the major programming languages (Python-preferred, MATLAB, C++, R, etc.) and ability to apply computational libraries for data analysis/numerical simulations/data visualizations/etc. - Experience in deploying models in cloud platforms, design and implementation of model pipelines in cloud platforms preferred.
