The Italian program of the School of International Letters & Cultures (SILC) at Arizona State University (Tempe campus) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer of Italian with a preferred start date of August 2022. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, 9-month appointment (Aug 16 - May 15). The Italian program offers a Bachelor of Arts major and minor degree programs. This position is non-tenure eligible and may be renewed annually pending satisfactory job performance, availability of funding, and the needs of the university.

Essential Functions: • The selected candidate will teach Italian language and culture courses. These courses may be in different modalities (in person, hybrid, online). • Provide leadership in Italian program coordination (design courses, prepare syllabi, and organize community events). • Contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum development. • Work collaboratively with colleagues to advance Italian program recruitment and development, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications: • MA degree or higher in Italian in hand by the time of appointment. • Three years’ experience in higher education teaching Italian language and culture (elementary through advanced level). • Native/Near-native proficiency in Italian. • Demonstrated experience meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities. • Demonstrated experience in Italian program recruitment and development.

Desired Qualifications: • ABD or PhD in a relevant area, including Italian language pedagogy, teaching of Italian as a foreign language, applied linguistics, Italian literary and cultural studies, film and media studies, environmental humanities or a related field by the time of appointment • Demonstrated experience in teaching Italian culture courses in Italian and English • Demonstrated experience with ACTFL proficiency standards and/or ACTFL OPI training • Demonstrated experience in online teaching • Demonstrated experience in developing interdisciplinary courses and curricula
