Cornell AgriTech, Geneva, NY 14456. The academic home for this position is the Department of Food Science at Cornell AgriTech in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), housed on the Geneva campus of Cornell University.

Position Description and Responsibilities:
The Department of Food Science at Cornell University's AgriTech campus in Geneva, NY, invites applications for a 9-month, full time tenure-track faculty position in postharvest management and technology at the Assistant or early Associate Professor level. Potential research areas include novel technologies to optimize the quality and ensure the safety of plant-based foods along the food chain, with a focus on newly developed or underutilized crops, digital technologies to monitor fresh produce quality and safety from farm to fork, and novel strategies for minimizing postharvest food losses and valorizing food waste in support of a circular economy. The position involves 50% research and 50% extension responsibilities. 

Research (50%) - The successful candidate will be expected to develop and direct an innovative, externally funded research program in areas relevant to postharvest technologies that will attract graduate students, post docs and strategic internal (Horticulture, Plant Breeding) and external collaborators. The incumbent will be expected to mentor professional Masters, M.S., and Ph.D. students and advise undergraduate students. 

Extension (50%) - The candidate will be expected to develop a successful, externally funded extension program that will serve New York State stakeholders, supporting the land grant mission of Cornell CALS and AgriTech. The new extension program in postharvest technologies is expected to collaborate and conduct synergistic activities with the Institute for Food Safety at Cornell University, the Cornell Food Venture Center, the Produce Safety Alliance, the CALS School of Integrative Plant Science, and the NY Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in food science/technology, food chemistry, food microbiology, plant science, or a closely aligned field completed by the date of appointment. Previous academic, industrial or postdoctoral experience is preferred.
