Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Department of Computer and Data Sciences at Merrimack College seeks a full-time faculty member to develop and teach upper-level undergraduate courses in our Data Science program. The successful hire will develop and teach required courses in data mining, predictive analytics, machine learning, and applied statistics, as well as elective courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Teaching duties begin September 2022; stipends for course development begin June 2022 or earlier by mutual agreement.

Applicants seeking appointment as a tenured or tenure-track faculty member must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science or a related field; non-tenure-track applicants must hold an MS in Data Science or a related field and have industry experience. All applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Tenured and tenure-track faculty teach three courses (12 contact hours) per semester, maintain an active research program with the capacity to apply for and obtain external funding, and serve on departmental and college-wide committees; non-tenure track faculty teach four courses (16 contact hours) per semester and provide service to the department. Applicants who have a sponsored research program (funded through external grants or industry partnerships) will be given highest consideration as impact hires.

Qualifications:

1. Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Data Science or related field; or MS in Data Science or a related field and 10+ years of industry experience. 2. Must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate level. 3. For a tenured or tenure-track position, an active research program with the capacity to apply for and obtain external funding. 4. Ability to foster an environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion. 5. Strong verbal/written communication skills are essential.
