The Colgate University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a visiting assistant professor position in physics to begin in fall 2022. The position is for one year with possibility for a second. Completion of the Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire. Previous teaching experience is an advantage. We seek a person with a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Academic responsibilities will include teaching an introductory-level course for non-majors. Preference will be given to candidates with flexibility to teach upper-level courses for physics majors and/or courses in Colgate’s Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. Although the candidate will have no research requirements during this appointment, collaboration with current faculty is possible. The department has 11 faculty members and maintains well-equipped research laboratories in quantum and optical physics, green electronics, condensed matter physics, superconducting low-temperature physics, biophysics, planetary science, observational astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, computational neuroscience, and engineered environmental processes. The department is housed in the Ho Science Center that is configured to facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and research.
