Postdoctoral Associate McHenry Lab at Duke University Department of Psychology and Neuroscience The McHenry Lab at Duke University (https://www.mchenry-lab.org) is seeking to hire a motivated Postdoctoral Associate to work in the lab. This grant-funded position is focused on establishing neural control systems for social and nonsocial forms of behavioral homeostasis in various genetic and autism mouse models. Techniques include a range of modern state-of-the-art technology including but not limited to 2-photon and Inscopix deep brain calcium imaging in behaving mice, deep learning methods for multi-animal behavior tracking, optogenetics, and iDisco / light sheet microscopy. The lab is committed to producing science of high impact, quality, rigor, and reproducibility and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, and professional environment. The lab position is open for immediate occupancy. The applicant must be detail-oriented, proactive, well-organized, consistent, and able to self-manage multiple and changing priorities. Excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to research and work ethic, and a positive attitude are required for this team-based environment. The Postdoc must conduct themselves in a professional manner, adhere to standard procedures and expectations, maintain clear and reproducible lab records, be honest/ethical/transparent in all animal and experimental work performed, and be respectful and inclusive of all individuals in this diverse work environment. Due to the nature of the specialized technical and animal research needs and live animal care, an atypical schedule is required, and weekend work is included as part of a regular working schedule for animal care and some experimental protocols, with flexibility outside of required timed tasks. This opportunity will provide training in innovative techniques, the opportunity to publish first-author high impact papers, collaborative networking, close mentorship, and professional development in a range of areas. Work Performed: The Postdoc will perform day-to-day management the experiments, data collection (e.g., surgery, behavior, imaging), data analyses / statistics, assemble figures, present research at conferences and local symposia, prepare peer-review manuscripts, mentor and train others in the lab, and contribute to ongoing collaborations and team-based science. Requirements: Education: A PhD in one of the following or related fields: Neuroscience/Neurobiology, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Engineering. Experience: The ideal candidate will have experience in behavioral neuroscience (mouse models), in vivo modern neuroscience techniques (e.g., calcium imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics), and decent programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python to align time-series behavioral and neural recordings).
