Position Description
Assistant Research
Professor and Assistant Director in the Duke Microbiome Center
The Duke Microbiome Center (DMC) and Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the Duke University School of Medicine invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor that will also serve as Assistant Director of the DMC. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of microbiome science including relevant molecular, bioinformatic, biostatistic, and microbiological methods. They will also have strong demonstrated skills in study design, sample or data collection, pipeline development, data analysis, results interpretation, manuscript writing, and grant proposal preparation. The ideal candidate will have a productive record of collaborative research and project management, and will engage in diverse collaborations with faculty in the DMC and across Duke University. This position also provides opportunities to lead projects or team research initiatives, as well as develop grant applications. The candidate will be expected to interact closely with the Duke Microbiome Core Facility and contribute to its scientific direction. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop, organize, and facilitate educational and community building activities within the DMC.
The candidate should possess a doctoral degree in one of the
following areas: microbiome science, microbiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics,
genomics, systems biology, computational biology, or a related discipline. A
record of verifiable and published research in microbiome science is required;
the potential to obtain extramural funding is strongly preferred. Excellent
teamwork, organization, and communication skills are required. Applicants resumes will be continued to be reviewed after the closing
