DATA PROCESSING SPECIALIST Job Title: DATA PROCESSING SPEC Job Code: 2066 FLSA: E Job Level: 11 Revised Date: Job Family: JF 08 Occupational Summary Provide consultation, programming assistance, and data processing instruction to departmental personnel to include developing or modifying computer programs in support of research and/or instruction activities, , and reviewing and correcting computer programs for departmental users of computing facilities. Work Performed • Manage all of the Center’s software licenses, training, and troubleshooting. This includes researching and specifying new packages and hardware implementation methods that meet user needs. For example calendar systems, image analysis packages, and basic office and computing software for individual users.

• Manage all of the center’s computing hardware needs – servers, reconstruction engines, individual users computers. This includes specifying new systems, upgrades, user training, maintenance,

• Provide consultation, programming assistance, and data processing instruction to departmental users of computer facilities; analyze department's programming needs and requirements and assist in determining feasibility of utilizing original or existing computer programs.

• Consult with departmental users as required to provide technical guidance and direction and to develop efficient programs compatible with departmental needs; maintain liaison with representatives of other University data processing.

• Oversee and maintain hardware and software within Bryan Radiology.

• System hardware and application installation, configuration and tests of environments. Software maintenance and upgrades, security plans and compliance.

• Maintain certificates for all software that require security certificates.

• Consult with departmental users as required to provide technical guidance and direction and to develop efficient programs compatible with departmental needs; maintain liaison with representatives of other University data processing operations and professional organizations to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

• Monitor system performance, diagnoses system issues, perform scheduled and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting.

• Technical liaison with software vendors for multiple applications.

• Provide ongoing day-to-day technical/computer support to all faculty, staff and users of the Center’s Resources.

• Assist research collaborators both within and outside of Duke with processing and accessing data obtained in lab.

Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training Work requires a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science or a computer related field, or equivalent coursework or technical training. Experience Work requires one year of related programming or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages or programs and/or knowledge of the specialty area for which the position is providing support.
