INTRODUCTION

The School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a Statistician/Biostatistician/Epidemiologist for a non-tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Residence. The position is suitable for candidates who wish to pursue an academic career with an emphasis on research support. Under the direction of the Dean and Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship, this position will be responsible for providing statistical expertise to support researchers at the School of Nursing, and will be actively involved in research activities and collaborate with investigators on research projects. This may include:

  • Provide statistical design consultation for quantitative and/or mixed methods research, clinical trials, multivariate and time series methods, meta-analyses, and other study designs
  • Assist with power calculation, sample size estimation, and statistical plans to advance scientific goals and the likelihood of funding of various projects
  • Provide support for data management, data analysis, and presentation of the data and results
  • Support the statistical analysis plan in grant proposal writing, interpret statistical data and provide final reports, such as manuscripts and conference presentations
  • May teach existing statistical methods courses as well as develop new courses as needed
  • Standard service obligations such as participating in University and School Committees
  • Contribute to the research, teaching, service, and outreach mission of the School
  • Participate in internal grant review meetings
  • Supervise students
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the office of the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or equivalent degree.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with nursing faculty and students as well as multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Proficiency with SAS, SPSS, R, STATA, and other statistical and reporting software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with health-related data.
  • Experience writing statistical protocols for grant proposals.
  • Experience with educational technologies like Blackboard and online homework systems.
  • Evidence of potential for inclusive excellence in teaching, and a deep commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion through their pedagogical and/or academic programs.
  • Teaching experience that includes non-traditional, first-generation, and/or historically underrepresented student populations.
  • Experience with grant applications for pedagogical activities.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track position that has the possibility of leading to a multi-year contract. The position has an anticipated start date of August 23, 2022. The successful candidate’s initial academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
