Position Description: |
The Program in Molecular Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School is seeking an outstanding individual for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level.
The position responsibilities will be to direct and perform experiments to address the role of candidate genes on adipocyte thermogenesis and its functions in regulating whole body metabolism. The position requires direct experience in the combination of the following methods: high magnification light sheet microscopy, electron microscopy, metabolic cage studies for mice measuring energy expenditure parameters and food intake, bioinformatic analysis of large datasets of RNAseq and single cell Seq, CRISPR methods, and adipocyte implantation into immunocompromised mice. These methods will be used in experiments to 1. define the cellular locations of gene products identified that activate beige adipocytes, 2. define the effects of these gene products on cell functions and gene expression profiles, 3. define the effects of adipocytes deficient in such gene products when implanted into mice, and 4. define mechanisms by which such cells modulate systemic metabolism and glucose tolerance when implanted in mice.
Applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their qualifications and interest in this position, a curriculum vitae and contact information for three reference letters.
