The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management (HLPM) at the Boston University School of Public Health is excited to announce the recruitment of two new faculty members: one with expertise in health law and one with expertise in health care management. Candidates for these positions will be expected to teach and should demonstrate ability or potential to be an outstanding instructor.

Faculty with expertise in health law, who are also affiliated with the Center for Health Law, Ethics, and Human Rights, conduct research on topics such as health reform, the Affordable Care Act, genetics and genomics, health promotion, patient rights and safety, firearms regulation, reproductive rights, as well as participate in the department’s Medicaid Policy Lab. Candidates for this position will be expected to teach four classes each year, both large classes and small courses. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate the promise of or a history of outstanding scholarly activity and dedication to service. Duties will include advising MPH and JD-MPH students. Candidates must have a JD or equivalent degree and a record of academic excellence. This faculty position is at the Assistant Professor level.

Faculty with expertise in health care management engage in our nationally-ranked CAHME-accredited program. Candidates for these positions will be expected to teach classes such as Strategic Management of Health Care Organizations, Operations Management, Lean Management, Healthcare Delivery Systems, Human Resources, Healthcare Finance and our Leadership and Management core course, and to conduct externally-funded scholarly research in improving access, quality and value in health care. Candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant field and a record of academic or practice-based excellence. This faculty position is open rank.

The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management is comprised of 62 faculty, who are internationally recognized for their innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching across the broad fields of health law and social policy, health economics, and healthcare management. The Partner Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC) for the Veterans Hospital Administration studies demand and access to care for veterans. The Healthy Minds Study, the largest, most comprehensive study of mental health, health behaviors, and health service use on U.S. college campuses, is co-lead by HLPM faculty. HLPM faculty are among the lead investigators of the historic, $89 million, four-state Healing Communities Study, which is bending the curve on opioid overdose deaths in Massachusetts and beyond. Our healthcare management faculty study cancer screening capacity across health care organizations and hospital operations.

In addition to our engagement in the school-wide MPH and DrPH programs, the department has a large and successful PhD program in Health Services Research as well as a MS in Translation and Implementation Science. Applicants should provide their curriculum vitae; a cover letter; a research statement describing their research interests and previous experience; a teaching and mentoring statement detailing their teaching experience and their approach to mentoring trainees; and a diversity statement that details how their leadership will promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice at our school.
