A commitment to promoting sustainable and socially impactful design practices is preferred. The ideal candidate should have the capacity to engage with technologies, materials and processes as they provide strategic guidance through research, experimentation, and prototyping related to the design process. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach from a student-centered perspective at the undergraduate and graduate levels and support the department’s long-standing commitment to increasing the diversity of the design professions.
We seek a colleague who is interested in exploring topics that are situated beyond traditional areas of industrial design, inviting transdisciplinary and innovative collaboration across the university and within surrounding communities. Research on advanced materials, and new and novel material design will be a plus. As we advocate for the development of socially relevant and sustainably produced products, environments, or services, the successful appointee might contribute to the community-engaged research and creative activity associated with Ohio State’s Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability Lab (DESIS LAB) and the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). If appropriate, the successful applicant’s research and creative endeavors may be supported by the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) as well the other centers and institutes across the university.
