The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with research interests in the areas of Feminist Philosophy, Ethics, or Normative or Applied Global Justice, with a start date of August 16, 2023. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in research and teaching. Successful candidates are expected to develop vigorous, extramurally funded research programs in their areas of expertise, actively participate in the Department's teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented students is highly desired.

The Department of Philosophy currently consists of seven tenured faculty members, conducting pure and applied research with specializations in Africana Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, Philosophy of Law, and Pragmatism. It offers a BA degree in Philosophy and is a leading unit in the Bioethics Interdisciplinary major. In collaboration with the Howard University Law School, the Department also offers a 3+3 BA-JD program.

Required Qualifications: • Earned doctorate in Philosophy from an accredited institution; • Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of assistant professor; • Effective communication and organizational skills; and • Evidence of successful grant writing experience.
